After three long years of deliberation and advocacy, Parliament has finally passed the groundbreaking Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Act (LBTQ) – Ghana 2024.
This legislation aims to protect and promote human sexual rights, including the right to privacy, autonomy, and non-discrimination in all matters related to sexuality. It also recognizes and upholds the importance of family values in a diverse society.
Under this act, individuals have the right to choose their sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression without fear of discrimination or persecution. It also guarantees access to comprehensive sexual education, healthcare services, and reproductive rights.
Furthermore, the act emphasizes the importance of promoting healthy relationships, consent, and respect within families and communities. It prohibits all forms of violence, abuse, and discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other factor.
